Black Magic was very black and very hairy when she was born, very much like her mother, Magic. It was the summer that we were planning to move house so time was very limited which meant she was only shown once as a foal at foot, at Wolsingham Show, where she was awarded 1st prize foal. I continued to show her as a yearling and two year old at local agricultural shows and she was always in the ribbons and awarded many 1st prizes. At the beginning of 2013 I felt that she was still very immature so decided to give her a year off and allow me time to work with her sibling Maggie May. Maggie May did very well in the show ring during 2013 so I needed to continue working with her during 2014. This helped me to decide to put Black Magic in foal, so she ran with my stallion Brackenbank Amos during 2014 and produced a filly foal in May 2015. I think it’s the farmer in me that hates to see a pony without a job.
Black Magic and her filly foal, Rambling Rose, attended many local agricultural shows as well as the FPS Breed Show and Lowther Country Fair. Black Magic is a good mother so I decided to let her have more foals before breaking her to ride.
She is a top quality Fell pony and was awarded 1st prize Broodmare with filly foal at foot at the FPS Breed Show in 2017 winning ‘The Hasell Challenge Cup’ so I have kept her breeding. I have several ponies that I can ride so Black Magic will be covered again during 2020.
